5 Tips For Your Most Fabulous 1Os and 2Os

How to mind your manis & pedis

1) Score a walk-in or schedule in advance

Book last-minute appointments or try to score a walk-in on weekday mornings or afternoons, when salons are least busy. If you would like to stick to a schedule, reserve your appointments in advance and spread them out as early as two weeks in advance when gets close to a busy holiday season or long weekends. Stay connected with your stylist and salon on social media their newsletter lists, and their website to see last-minute availabilities, holiday reminders, and general schedule updates.

2) Find a specialist based on your desired outcome

Scroll a few salons and specialists to better identify what look you’re going for. When you’ve found the right fit for your intended style or a special service, you can always call ahead to ask questions or learn more. Whether you’re looking for a specialist that excels at nail art, custom shapes, or gel polish, you should try to find a specialist who’s style caters to your intended outcome. Look for your nail artist the same way you would look for a colorist who focuses on highlighting dark hair, or a hairstylist who specializes at cutting curly hair to keep your curls refreshed.

3) Ask for a polish swatch

Don't worry if you feel indecisive about picking the right polish. If you can't decide after five minutes, bring your top few choices to your manicurist's station for a swatch test. You can also ask for a suggestion based on the hues of your skin tone. Sometimes, it’s easier to choose the right lacquer after seeing it brushed on a finger or two and it’s much easier for both of us to switch colors after a swatch test than it is to paint the whole set and still feel some lingering doubts.

4) Relax, we’ve probably seen it before

The most unexpected thing that may get under your nail tech’s skin is handling frequent or excessive apologizing for unshaven legs or "gross" feet. We want you to come in and relax! If we notice something serious like a fungal infection or an ingrown nail we might suggest you seek a doctor, but chances are we probably hadn’t noticed the thing you’re worried about because we really have seen it all - and your body as it is, is fine.

5) Get comfortable

Your comfort makes it more comfortable for us. It makes our job difficult having to shift into awkward positions to accommodate a rigid digit, so please relax, your hands, arms and feet and enjoy your fabulous manicure and/or pedicure.
